Marvel and DC Unite for Historic Crossover: Deadpool/Batman One-Shot Announced

In a landmark move for the comic book industry, Marvel and DC are teaming up for a rare crossover event this fall: Deadpool/Batman. This one-shot comic will bring together two of the most iconic—and contrasting—characters in superhero history, with Marvel’s irreverent antihero Deadpool stepping into DC’s dark and brooding Gotham City.

Set for release on September 17, 2025, Deadpool/Batman #1 will follow Wade Wilson as he takes on a mercenary contract that brings him face-to-face with none other than the Caped Crusader himself. The story is penned by Zeb Wells, a veteran Marvel writer known for his work on Amazing Spider-Man and as a co-writer for the upcoming Deadpool & Wolverine film. The artwork will be handled by Greg Capullo, a fan-favorite illustrator recognized for his dynamic runs on Batman and X-Men titles.

This collaboration marks the first of two scheduled crossovers between Marvel and DC in over two decades. The initial issue, produced by Marvel, will be followed by Batman/Deadpool #1, published by DC and set to arrive in November 2025. Each publisher will take creative control of their respective release, offering fans unique perspectives on the unexpected pairing.

In a statement, Wells reflected on the opportunity with humor and enthusiasm:

“After writing Amazing Spider-Man (2022) for 60 issues, I told Marvel I needed a break. Marvel told me I could do that—or write a comic starring Deadpool and Batman with the best Batman artist of our generation. I no longer needed a break.” He noted the dynamic between the characters, joking that, “We’ve finally found someone who has even less patience for Deadpool than Wolverine.”

The story promises more than just banter and brawls. A looming threat from the Joker will force the unlikely duo into an uneasy alliance, with Deadpool’s unpredictability testing Batman’s limits.

Capullo also shared his excitement, calling the project a potential career milestone:

“Am I dreaming? This crossover might just be the high point of my career—and I’ve had a great one.” Having worked extensively on both X-Force and a decade’s worth of Batman comics, Capullo brings a rare dual perspective to this once-in-a-generation event.

With Capullo’s main cover art already unveiled, fan anticipation is reaching a fever pitch. As Deadpool/Batman #1 approaches its release date, all eyes are on Gotham to see what happens when chaos meets discipline in a clash of comic book titans.
