WASHINGTON, 28 June 2025: President Donald Trump announced on Friday that he intends to send formal letters to various countries, detailing the tariff rates they will be required to pay for conducting business with the United States. These letters are expected to be dispatched within the next week and a half.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump indicated that the communication would clearly specify the financial obligations for international trade with the US. He also noted that the United States is actively engaged in negotiating new trade deals with several nations, including India. When questioned about an upcoming July 9 trade deadline, President Trump clarified that it was not a rigid date, stating, “We can do whatever we want. We could extend it. We could make it shorter. I’d like to just send letters out to everybody: ‘Congratulations. You’re paying 25 per cent”
The President reiterated that the US has already collected a substantial sum of US$88 billion from tariffs.
