Malaysia to Host First-Ever Jallikattu Tournament in Historic Move

KUALA LUMPUR, 28 August 2025: Malaysia is set to make history by hosting its first-ever Jallikattu tournament this November, bringing the traditional Tamil sport to the country for the first time. The announcement was made by Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) Deputy President Datuk Seri M. Saravanan, who confirmed that preparations for the event are underway.

The tournament, a significant cultural event for the Tamil community, is scheduled to take place at a suitable venue, with Batu Caves being hinted as a central location due to its accessibility. This marks a new milestone for the sport, which is globally renowned and typically held in regions of Tamil Nadu, India, and was recently hosted in Sri Lanka.

According to Saravanan, discussions are being held to bring approximately 250 bulls to participate in the competition. The event is expected to attract both local participants and Tamil expatriates who work in Malaysia, making it a truly inclusive cultural exchange. The success of this inaugural event will be a key factor in determining whether it becomes a recurring tradition in the country.
