PARIS, France — As 22 Durga Puja committees and the broader Hindu community gather across Paris to celebrate Durga Puja, deep concerns over the worsening safety and human rights situation of minority Hindus in Bangladesh have taken center stage.
In a united stand, community organizers, leaders, and devotees in France are drawing international attention to the severe vulnerabilities faced by religious minorities in Bangladesh. The Hindu community and the Bureau of Human Rights and Justice (BHRJ) strongly protest the ongoing persecution, violent attacks, and systematic targeted violence against Hindu minorities in Bangladesh, characterizing the situation as an escalating attempt at ethnic cleansing.
In addition to calling for immediate international intervention and protective measures for minorities, Bureau of Human Rights and Justice (BHRJ) and all 22 Paris Durga Puja committees jointly demand:
- The immediate and unconditional release of Hindu spiritual leader Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu.
- An immediate cessation of violent targeting, forced displacement, and religious persecution of minority Hindus in Bangladesh.
- Accountability and protection guarantees from responsible authorities and international human rights bodies to safeguard minority lives, properties, and places of worship.
Speaking on behalf of the organization, Bureau of Human Rights and Justice (BHRJ), Dipan Mitra stated:
“While Durga Puja is a time of unity, peace, and spiritual celebration, the diaspora in Paris cannot remain silent as our brothers and sisters in Bangladesh face unprecedented existential threats. BHRJ strongly protests these targeted acts of violence and demands the immediate, unconditional release of Chinmoy Krishna Das Prabhu and an urgent end to the ethnic cleansing of minority Hindus.”
All Puja Committees and BHRJ urges to the media outlets, international human rights organizations, and government representatives in France and across Europe to shed light on this critical human rights emergency in Bangladesh and hold responsible parties accountable.
