28 JANUARY: In preparation for Visit Malaysia 2026, new Chinese settlements are being developed as part of the nation’s tourism offerings. Khoo Poay Tiong, head of the Malaysian Chinese New Village Secretariat, stated that efforts are underway to enhance the infrastructure in these villages to boost their appeal as tourist destinations.
Malaysia is home to 613 Chinese new villages, each with its unique history, culture, and arts. Khoo emphasized that the Madani administration is committed to modernizing these areas and improving their infrastructure. “A Chinese new village will stimulate the local economy, providing opportunities for residents to increase their income when it becomes a tourist destination,” he explained during a press conference yesterday, as reported by Bernama.
The Housing and Local Government Ministry is funding the infrastructure upgrades for these settlements. In addition, various initiatives, such as a nationwide Chinese New Year village decoration competition, are being organized to promote these villages as cultural and tourism hotspots.
With their distinctive charm and growing facilities, these villages aim to play a pivotal role in Malaysia’s tourism landscape, drawing both domestic and international visitors.
