28 JANUARY: On the eve of Chinese New Year, traffic on major highways appeared smooth as people prepared to travel home for the festivities. Traffic camera inspections conducted at approximately 8:35 a.m. on Tuesday, January 28, showed minimal congestion in the Klang Valley, with relatively few cars on the road.
The North-South Expressway, a key route between Kuala Lumpur and Penang, experienced routine traffic conditions. Sections such as Sungai Buloh to Rawang, Slim River, Tapah, and Juru to Seberang Jaya in Penang showed normal vehicle flow. Similarly, traffic from Sungai Dua in Penang to Sungai Petani in Kedah appeared to be moving smoothly.
Despite the calm conditions, a last-minute rush on Tuesday morning was observed, with many individuals hurrying to their hometowns for the traditional reunion feast. Authorities had earlier predicted an increase in traffic as the migration to hometowns began on Monday, January 27.
Drivers are advised to remain cautious due to rainfall in several areas, which has made roads wet and slippery. To accommodate travelers during the holiday period, highway users nationwide are enjoying a 50% toll reduction from January 27 until midnight on January 28.
