21 SEPTEMBER: India Gate Restaurant, known for its authentic South and North Indian cuisine, has earned a spot in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBR) for the highest sales of biryani and naan in a single year. The restaurant sold an impressive 573,619 biryanis and 379,485 naan breads.
Founder and managing director Saravanan Subramaniam expressed pride in the achievement, noting that biryani and naan are among their most popular offerings from a menu of 158 items. The award was presented during the opening of their 10th branch in New Town, Petaling Jaya, which can seat 170 diners and features four private dining rooms and party halls with karaoke facilities.
To mark the occasion, 1,000 servings of biryani were given out to the public, with 200 guests in attendance. Saravanan also announced plans to expand the restaurant chain, with a new outlet in Jalan Changkat, Bukit Bintang, set to open in December. Future branches are planned for Johor, Penang, Ipoh, and Melaka, with Singapore as a potential overseas location.
Saravanan also urged the government to expedite worker approvals from India to meet growing demand in the sector as stated in Bernama.
