Malaysia Climbs to 12th Globally in 2026 Global Peace Index

KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia has further solidified its standing as one of the world’s safest and most stable countries, climbing to 12th place out of 163 nations in the Global Peace Index (GPI) 2026. This marks a one-spot improvement from its 13th-place ranking in 2025.

The latest findings position Malaysia as the third most peaceful nation in Asia, trailing only Singapore (8th) and Japan (10th) globally.

National Security as an Economic Foundation

Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail credited the achievement to the strategic focus of the MADANI administration, which prioritizes national security, border control, and public safety.

“This recognition is a direct result of the unyielding commitment shown by our security forces, enforcement agencies, and all stakeholders who have refused to compromise on public peace,” Saifuddin stated on Thursday.

The Home Ministry emphasized that national stability is not just a statistical milestone but a critical prerequisite for macroeconomic resilience, stating that public safety directly underpins foreign direct investment (FDI) and long-term investor confidence.

Regional Safety Metrics

While global peacefulness metrics face headwinds due to international conflicts, Malaysia has managed to maintain an upward trajectory by improving its internal security indicators.
