KUALA LUMPUR, Sept 3: Opposition leaders have condemned the new conditions for admission to Mara Science Junior College (MRSM), which accepts only national primary and secondary students.

In statement, Kulai MP Teo Nie Ching and Sungai Buloh MP Sivarasa Rasiah demanded the government to bring back the 10% special quota for non-Bumiputera students in MRSM.

“One of the main principles of the national education policy is education for all.

“Access to education is a principle that cannot be compromised and should be upheld as a priority of the government.

“The 10% quota which was allocated to non-Bumiputera should not be violated.

“It is the opportunity given to them for their hard work.

“This (our) statement does not intend to ignore the rights of the Bumiputera in Malaysia.

“However, it aims to focus on the opportunities that should be given to non-Bumiputeras in Malaysia.

“We understand that many students who want to apply to enter MRSM are no longer able to do so due to the change in government policy for the MRSM application in 2022,” they said.
