Three National Records Shattered as Para SUKMA Opens

24 SEPTEMBER: The 2024 Para Malaysia Games (Para SUKMA) kicked off spectacularly, witnessing three national records broken on the opening day at the Petra Jaya Archery Range and Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre.

Pahang’s Loh Chi Hui stood out in the women’s recurve individual qualification, scoring 574 points to surpass Nor Sa’adah Abdul Wahab’s 11-year record of 504 points set during the 2013 Asian Para Archery Championship. Loh further showcased her talent alongside Ahmad Jaffri Jamaluddin in the mixed recurve team event, achieving a total of 1,153 points, breaking the previous record of 1,093 points.

In swimming, Sabah’s Abd Halim Mohammad claimed gold in the S8-S9 men’s 400 meters freestyle, setting a new national record of 5:21.99 seconds, shattering the prior record of 5:50.54 seconds. Fellow swimmer Ethan Khoo Yin Jun also made waves by winning gold in the S14 boys’ 100m backstroke with a time of 1:06.20 seconds, while 14-year-old Asyiil Raziin Razman triumphed in the S14 women’s 100m freestyle, clocking 1:23.35 seconds.

With 67 gold medals up for grabs tomorrow, the competition remains fierce, especially in athletics, which features the most medals at 29 as stated in BERNAMA.
