Selangor Launches Free Influenza Vaccination Drive for 12,000 Schoolchildren in Four Districts

SHAH ALAM, 02 November 2025: The Selangor state government has launched a major public health initiative, offering free influenza vaccinations to over 12,000 school children across four of its districts starting next week. The proactive measure is aimed at curbing the rising number of influenza cases and protecting the academic environment, especially within crowded school settings.

The four districts targeted in this initial phase of the vaccination programme are Klang, Hulu Langat, Gombak, and Petaling. This focused approach is designed to provide immediate protection in areas deemed critical for controlling the spread of the seasonal virus. The announcement was made in response to growing concern over the transmission rate of influenza, particularly among primary and secondary students.

Focus on Vulnerable Groups

The state government highlighted that the initiative is an essential public health intervention, particularly since schoolchildren often serve as vectors for community-wide transmission. By inoculating this large cohort, Selangor intends to create a protective barrier that shields not just the students but also their families and the broader community, especially vulnerable elderly populations.

The vaccinations will be administered in collaboration with the State Health Department, ensuring a safe and efficient rollout. This targeted programme underscores the state’s commitment to preventative healthcare and managing infectious diseases, ensuring minimal disruption to education and daily life. The scheme aims to reinforce health security and reduce the burden on public healthcare facilities during the high-transmission season.
