KUALA LUMPUR – A major digital transformation is moving through the nation’s administrative sector, changing how citizens interact with public services. Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi announced in Parliament on Wednesday that a significant 12 million citizens have successfully registered for the national digital ID platform as of June 30.
The milestone marks a steady shift toward a more modern and integrated state ecosystem. With digital transactions hitting the 16 million mark—including quick license renewals and system updates—the initiative is designed to streamline administrative tasks. The government’s structural integration strategy is encouraging bureaucratic systems to update quickly, replacing older, paper-based procedures with digital alternatives.
Public Services Adopt the Unified Digital ID
The core strength of this technology expansion lies in a federal directive aimed at connecting previously separate institutional systems. Under guidelines issued by the Chief Secretary to the Government, all ministries and state departments are implementing the single sign-on system. Consequently, a total of 114 government online platforms have transitioned their independent login screens to integrate with the digital ID gateway.
Furthermore, everyday commuters and taxpayers are utilizing the unified system to access critical portals like MyJPJ, MyPTPTN, and the Royal Malaysia Police MyBayar platform. This structural overhaul ensures that citizens can safely manage their driving licenses, student loans, and traffic fines through a single, secure digital profile. Therefore, the wide deployment eliminates the frustration of managing dozens of different passwords across fragmented state websites.
Expanding Technology Across Local Agencies
In an effort to meet national technology benchmarks, the administration is expanding the platform’s reach beyond federal agencies into local state government applications. For example, while 19 state-level platforms are already running the biometric verification layer, another 28 specialized apps are currently in the development phase to meet upcoming rollout deadlines. Ultimately, this nationwide progress proves that the digital ID has transformed into a core pillar of modern Malaysian public infrastructure.
