KUALA LUMPUR, 24 August: Surya, the 26-year-old son of Vijayaletchumy, is urgently appealing for help to rescue his mother, who was tragically swallowed by a sinkhole on Jalan Masjid India.
Upon arriving at the scene, Surya, who had rushed back from Thailand, was visibly shaken as he described the heartbreak his family is enduring. His mother, a 48-year-old Indian national, was in Malaysia for a two-month visit and was preparing to return home to India. The unexpected disaster has left her family devastated and searching for answers.
Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) has reassured the family that all available resources are being utilized in the search and rescue (SAR) operation. Officials are working around the clock alongside various agencies to locate Vijayaletchumy. Despite their best efforts, the search remains challenging due to the strong water currents beneath the street, which are believed to have swept her away.
Surya expressed his disbelief and sorrow over the incident, stating that his mother had been excited about her trip back to India, where she would reunite with the rest of the family. Now, Surya and his relatives are left waiting anxiously at the scene, hoping for a miracle.
DBKL has offered their full support to the family during this difficult time, with Mayor Datuk Seri Maimunah Mohd Sharif personally visiting the site to meet with Surya and offer her condolences.
As the search continues, the family remains hopeful but deeply concerned as each hour passes without news of Vijayaletchumy’s whereabouts as stated in Bernama.
