A somber atmosphere enveloped the Teluk Intan Hospital today as the remains of nine Federal Reserve Unit (FRU) officers, who perished in a devastating lorry collision, were laid to rest. Their caskets, draped in the national flag, Jalur Gemilang, were honored in a solemn ceremony attended by grieving families, colleagues, and high-ranking officials.
The tragic incident occurred on May 13 along Jalan Chikus-Sungai Lampam, when the FRU lorry collided with a stone-laden lorry. The impact was so severe that it claimed the lives of all nine officers on board the FRU vehicle. The stone-laden lorry, reportedly overloaded, veered into the FRU lorry’s path, leading to the fatal crash.
Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who attended the funeral, expressed deep condolences to the families of the deceased. “These brave officers dedicated their lives to maintaining peace and order. Their sacrifice will not be forgotten,” he said. He also emphasized the need for stricter enforcement of road safety regulations to prevent such tragedies.
The Prime Minister’s Office issued a statement urging a thorough investigation into the incident. “We must ensure accountability and take necessary measures to enhance road safety, especially concerning heavy vehicles,” the statement read.
The loss of these officers has sent shockwaves through the law enforcement community. Colleagues described them as dedicated and courageous individuals committed to their duties. “They were more than colleagues; they were family,” said Inspector Rahman, a fellow FRU officer.
As the nation mourns, questions arise about the safety standards of heavy vehicles on Malaysian roads. Authorities have pledged to review current regulations and implement stricter controls to prevent future incidents.
The nine officers leave behind grieving families and a grateful nation. Their service and sacrifice serve as a poignant reminder of the risks law enforcement officers face daily in the line of duty, as stated in Malaymail
