AHMEDABAD, 13 June 2025: A 28-year-old software engineer, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, has been identified as the sole survivor of Air India Flight AI171, which tragically crashed near Ahmedabad airport on Wednesday. Police reports indicate that Ramesh managed to escape the burning wreckage by leaping from an emergency exit after the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aborted its takeoff. He is currently hospitalized in critical condition, suffering from severe burns to 40 percent of his body and a fractured leg.
The flight, bound for London from Ahmedabad, crashed around 1:30 PM local time on June 12, 2025. Investigations suggest the accident occurred after the aircraft’s takeoff was aborted, leading to its crash-landing and subsequent eruption in flames. Tragically, all 239 other individuals on board, comprising 230 passengers and 9 crew members, perished in the incident.
Authorities have launched a comprehensive inquiry into the disaster. Both the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) and Air India are conducting separate investigations, with primary focus on examining the retrieved black box recorders for crucial flight data and cockpit voice recordings. Forensic teams are also meticulously working at the crash site to gather further evidence as part of the ongoing efforts to determine the exact cause of the tragedy.
