A new children’s storybook, “Zul and His Friends,” has been successfully launched as Malaysia’s first children’s storybook on child sexual grooming published in ten languages. The book’s author, Mohamed Nazri bin Prem Nasir, was recognized by the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for being the first individual in Malaysia to publish a child sexual grooming awareness storybook in ten languages.
The launch event was held on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at N Space Ventures in Damansara Intan. The ceremony was officiated by Y.B. Puan Jamaliah Binti Jamaluddin, the Selangor State Government’s EXCO for Environment and Public Health. She represented Y.B. Teo Nie Ching, the Deputy Minister of Communications, who was the main sponsor for the MBOR application. In her keynote remarks, Y.B. Jamaliah praised the book as “a powerful step forward in using culturally relevant storytelling to reach across Malaysia’s rich diversity and protect our children”.



About the Book and Author

Titled “Zul and His Friends,” the storybook is an age-appropriate, culturally sensitive educational tool designed to raise awareness about child sexual grooming. The book uses five short stories featuring relatable characters to teach children how to recognize, respond to, and report inappropriate behavior. Key themes include recognizing grooming signs, trusting instincts, communicating with trusted adults, and online safety. The book is available in ten languages, including Bahasa Melayu, English, Chinese, Tamil, and Hindi, making it accessible across Malaysia’s diverse communities.
The author, Mohamed Nazri bin Prem Nasir, is a law student at the University of Malaya and a youth leader born in Kuala Lumpur in 2002. He is an active member of the Unicef Malaysia Young People Advisory Board and an elected member of the Federal Territory Youth Assembly. His NGO, Bina Malaysia, focuses on community empowerment and education. Nazri has also received accolades such as the Education Advocacy Award by RYTHM Foundation and was a finalist in the National Youth Premier Award.
