PUTRAJAYA, July 8 — The Social Welfare Department (JKM) has issued a firm warning about online safety. Specifically, web users must stop posting photos or videos on any digital platform if the media exposes a child’s identity.

Recently, officials noticed a rise in viral videos showing school children. Therefore, the department is now checking social sites very closely. Authorities believe that protecting young people must be the main goal for every internet user today.

First, sharing private photos hurts a child’s dignity and emotional health. Furthermore, it slows down their personal healing and destroys their long-term safety. This safety rule applies to all kids, including victims and witnesses of crimes.

Because of these risks, the law protects kids under the Child Act 2001. Under this law, sharing a child’s name, face, or school details is a crime. Consequently, people who break this rule will face very tough penalties in court.

For example, a guilty person can get a fine of up to RM10,000. In addition, the court can send them to jail for up to five years. Thus, the public must act with care on every digital platform. If you see such viral posts, you should delete them immediately.
