TAMIL NADU, 17 September 2025: A road accident involving 12 Malaysian tourists in Kodaikanal, Tamil Nadu, India, on Sunday resulted in several injuries, but no fatalities, according to Wisma Putra. The van they were traveling in skidded off a hilly road.
Wisma Putra confirmed that some individuals sustained minor injuries, while four others suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries. All injured parties are currently receiving treatment at local hospitals. The Consulate General of Malaysia in Chennai is in close contact with local authorities and the victims to provide necessary consular support. The consulate has also facilitated communication between the injured and their families in Malaysia.
The ministry has issued a travel advisory for Malaysians in India, urging caution during the ongoing monsoon season, particularly in hilly areas with a high risk of slippery roads and landslides. Travelers are strongly encouraged to register with the nearest Malaysian mission and obtain travel insurance for emergencies.
