KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian Indian Congress (MIC) will host a simultaneous nationwide Fun Run across all 137 of its divisions this Sunday, July 26, as part of the party’s 80th anniversary celebrations, party vice-president Datuk T. Murugiah announced today.
The primary event, a 5km run held at Taman Tasik Titiwangsa in Kuala Lumpur, is expected to draw around 2,000 participants and will be flagged off by MIC president Tan Sri S.A. Vigneswaran at 7:00 AM, alongside parallel runs across all nationwide divisions.
Murugiah said the overall initiative is projected to gather between 60,000 and 70,000 participants nationwide, emphasizing that the event is open to all Malaysians regardless of ethnic background.
“We are organising the Fun Run not only to celebrate MIC’s 80th anniversary but also to foster unity among Malaysians of all races. Although organised by MIC, we are inviting Malays, Chinese, Indians, and people from all communities to participate,” Murugiah told a press conference at MIC headquarters.
He added that the run represents the fifth instalment in MIC’s ongoing 80th anniversary series, which began in May and has previously featured a Koottu Prarthanai (collective prayer), Family Day, a community medical camp, and various sports tournaments. Three additional events are scheduled to follow, including a nationwide speech competition on August 8, building up to a grand finale celebration in Kuala Lumpur.
