MITRA Launches MITAP 2024/2025 to Develop Indian Agricultural Entrepreneurs

The Malaysian Indian Transformation Unit (MITRA) has opened applications for the Malaysian Indian Transformative Agri Programme (MITAP) 2024/2025, aiming to cultivate competitive agricultural entrepreneurs within the Indian community.

The program, set to commence in April 2025, is a collaboration with MARDI Corporation Sdn Bhd (MARDICorp) and utilizes existing agricultural modules. It comprises two main initiatives: the Agricultural Development Grant Assistance Program and the Young Agropreneur Program.P. Prabakaran, Chairman of MITRA’s Special Task Force and Member of Parliament for Batu, announced a RM3.8 million allocation for MITAP 2024/2025.

This funding is intended to support Indian entrepreneurs by providing a conducive ecosystem for participation in the agricultural sector. He acknowledged the challenges previously faced by Indian farmers, particularly insufficient funding, and emphasized that MITRA’s partnership with MARDICorp aims to address these issues.Under the Agricultural Development Grant Assistance Program, 100 eligible participants will attend a two-day Business Model Canvas Seminar.

Subsequently, 70 participants will be selected for a five-day Technical Agriculture Course at MARDICorp. This course focuses on six key areas: food crop production, dairy livestock management (cows), beekeeping, oyster mushroom cultivation technology, freshwater fish farming, and food processing technology (frozen).

Participants who complete the technical course will receive an Agricultural Development Grant of up to RM30,000. They will also benefit from ongoing guidance and monitoring to ensure the success and sustainability of their agricultural ventures. This initiative reflects MITRA’s commitment to empowering the Indian community through strategic support in the agricultural sector, as stated in Bernama.
