10 SEPTEMBER: A 160-meter stretch of Jalan Masjid India, from Wisma Yakin to the Bit Polis, has been closed to facilitate utility and land structure inspections, according to Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL).

DBKL’s Corporate Planning Department issued a statement explaining that two engagement sessions were held with stakeholders to update them on the land subsidence incident at Jalan Masjid India and the progress of ongoing works. DBKL presented site plans, including the installation of hoarding, which began on September 6 and is expected to conclude by September 9, 2024.

Repairs to a damaged manhole are currently underway, while Indah Water Konsortium (IWK) has fixed a nearby sewage pipe. Soil inspections will commence on September 10, 2024, followed by final restoration works.

In a previous incident, a 48-year-old woman from Andhra, India, fell into an eight-meter-deep hole on Jalan Masjid India.

During the engagement, DBKL proposed a new layout plan for the Lorong Tuanku Abdul Rahman Night Market and the relocation of affected vendors due to land repair works. The management of Masjid India also requested additional prayer spaces outside the mosque for Friday prayers, citing overcrowding inside.

DBKL, along with other agencies, remains committed to restoring and ensuring the safety of the area for visitors as stated in BULETIN TV3.
