SOPs for temples: Hindu Sangam urges govt to give clearer guidelines

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 11: The government should come up with clearer guidelines on the standard operating procedure (SOP) for non-Muslim houses of worship, says Malaysian Hindu Sangam (MHS).

Its president Datuk R.S. Mohan Shan said there is no clear guidelines on the SOPs to allow devotees to visit temples as the government eases the movement control measures from Tuesday (Aug 10).

“The states which are in Phase One can’t reopen temples and only 12 management members of temple can enter temple at this time.

“Temples which are located at states in Phase Two and Phase Three can reopen but temple management members and devotes must fully vaccinated.

“There are few Hindu priest from foreign countries working in temples who have not been vaccinated…this might be an issue.

“We are still waiting for updates on the SOPs from the government,” Mohan told The Hindu Press.

He also expressed disappointment that the National Unity Ministry did not hold discussion with Hindu religious leaders in order to come up with a guideline on the SOPs for the opening of temples.

Mohan added that proper guidelines are necessary to avoid confusion and potential Covid-19 clusters.
