MELAKA — Local youth leader Tebenraj Segar has brought pride to his home state and nation after representing Malaysia at the KAU International Summer School 2026: Future Diplomacy – International Relations in the Digital Age. Held in Almaty, Kazakhstan, from June 22 to 28, the international program was organized by Kazakh-American University (KAU) in partnership with the Astana Diplomatic Club. Adding distinction to his selection, the Open University Malaysia (OUM) undergraduate was both the sole delegate from Melaka and the only Malaysian Indian participant at the week-long summit.
Global Delegation and Cultural Exchange
The summit convened emerging student leaders, young diplomats, and academics from eight countries—including Malaysia, China, Mongolia, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan, the United States, and Greece—to examine how technological advancements are reshaping modern governance and cross-border relations.
Throughout the week, delegates participated in expert-led lectures on digital diplomacy, strategic leadership workshops, and international networking sessions. The program culminated in an International Cultural Gala Dinner, where participants showcased their home nations’ heritage. Tebenraj proudly performed a traditional dance in Indian attire to share Malaysia’s rich multicultural identity.
“I wasn’t only representing myself—I was representing Malaysia’s diversity and showing that Malaysian Indian youths belong on global platforms too,” Tebenraj said. “Diplomacy begins with listening. Before trying to be understood, you first need to understand others.”
Inspiring Future Youth Leaders
Crediting his parents and family for their unwavering encouragement throughout his youth leadership journey, Tebenraj hopes his experience motivates other young Malaysians from ordinary backgrounds to step outside their comfort zones.
“International opportunities are not limited to a selected few,” he emphasized. “You don’t need a privileged background to represent your country. With courage, dedication, and a willingness to step forward, more young Malaysians can create their own global journey.”
