KUALA LUMPUR — Thiyagaraj a/l Sankaranarayanan has been appointed as a member of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) Advisory Board for a two-year term, effective from May 1, 2026, until April 30, 2028.
The strategic appointment, made with the formal consent of His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim, was officially presented by Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri TPr Fadlun Mak Ujud. The official presentation ceremony was witnessed by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Hannah Yeoh, who expressed confidence that the appointment would drive progressive administration for city residents.
Bridging Public Service and Urban Governance
Thiyagaraj brings a diverse portfolio of public sector expertise to the consultative body. He served within the Malaysian Prisons Department from 2005 to 2023, notably holding the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Prisons within the Technical Intelligence and Investigation Unit. Beyond his security background, he concurrently serves as a Special Officer to the Minister of Education, integrating public welfare and education policy into his administrative capabilities.
As part of the DBKL Advisory Board, Thiyagaraj will collaborate with municipal leaders to deliver strategic recommendations regarding urban planning, policy formulation, and municipal administration. The consultative board is designed to optimize institutional governance, improve public service delivery networks, and safeguard community development frameworks across the capital.
Priorities for Sustainable Capital Growth
In an official statement following his presentation ceremony, Thiyagaraj expressed deep gratitude to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, and cabinet ministers for their institutional trust. He pledged to approach the position with absolute integrity, professionalism, and institutional accountability, acting as a direct conduit between the concerns of everyday citizens and the city administration.

Key focus areas for his upcoming term include elevating local cleanliness standards, optimizing public safety protocols, and empowering localized education frameworks. Thiyagaraj emphasized his intention to leverage his education ministry experience to systematically address challenges faced by schools within the Federal Territories. He reaffirmed that his advisory approach will ensure that capital development projects remain inclusive, sustainable, and strictly aligned with the socio-economic milestones of the Malaysia MADANI vision.
