CYBERJAYA, April 5- Multimedia University (MMU) will transform its campus into a center for linguistic heritage as the Indian Cultural Society (ICS) prepares to host Muthamizh Vizha 2026 on April 11. The full-day “academic extravaganza” aims to cultivate a lifelong passion for the Tamil language among primary school students through a series of high-stakes competitions and cultural showcases.
Organizers expect to welcome 500 young participants representing 30 Tamil schools across Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, and Negeri Sembilan. By hosting the festival on a university campus, the ICS intends to provide students with a meaningful glimpse into tertiary life while reinforcing the prestige of their cultural roots. Programme Director Dharmesh Kumaran emphasized that integrating the language into a university setting demonstrates its long-term significance in a student’s future academic journey.
The event features a rigorous competitive framework designed to test proficiency across several disciplines through an integrated series of academic and creative challenges. Within the category of Linguistic Arts, students will demonstrate their mastery of the Tamil language through essay writing, poetry recitation, public speaking, debate, and storytelling. Traditional Literature remains a focal point of the festival with a dedicated category for Thirukkural recitation, while the Fine Arts segment allows participants to showcase their talents in singing and drawing competitions. By combining these diverse fields into a single program, the organizers ensure a comprehensive evaluation of the students’ cultural and academic capabilities.

The schedule is divided into two distinct phases, beginning with a competitive immersion segment from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM. This will be followed by a Grand Finale from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, which includes professional cultural performances and a formal prize-giving ceremony. To ensure broad accessibility, the organizers have eliminated participation fees and will provide meals and official certificates to every attending student.
Established in July 1999, the ICS is one of the founding student organizations at MMU. Over the past two decades, the society has evolved into a cornerstone of campus life, dedicated to promoting Indian arts through high-impact initiatives. While the event provides comprehensive on-site support, organizers noted that schools and parents must arrange their own transportation to the Cyberjaya campus.
