KUALA LUMPUR – Malaysia has officially backed a major breakthrough in Middle East diplomacy. Specifically, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim welcomed the new US Iran diplomatic understanding aimed at ending months of bitter military hostilities. In an official statement issued on Monday, Anwar urged both Washington and Tehran to act in good faith. He emphasized that both nations must translate this temporary framework into a durable peace settlement without delay.
Urgent Call to Reopen Strait of Hormuz
The Prime Minister focused heavily on the economic impact of the four-month conflict. For instance, Anwar stressed that reopening the Strait of Hormuz must be treated as a matter of the highest urgency. He described the strategic waterway as a critical artery for global energy security and international trade. Because shipping paths have faced long disruptions, transport costs have severely pressured global markets. Therefore, Malaysia believes a swift reopening will stabilize the global economy.
Furthermore, Anwar commended the intense international mediation efforts that brought both parties to this point. Specifically, he praised the critical diplomatic role played by Pakistan in securing the agreement. The Prime Minister noted that all external actors must now refrain from any provocative actions. He stated that outside interference at this delicate moment could easily derail diplomacy and renew active fighting.
Foreign Ministry Details US Iran Diplomatic Understanding
The Malaysian Foreign Ministry released a separate statement supporting the US Iran diplomatic understanding. The ministry described the agreement as a significant step toward regional de-escalation. According to the statement, the pact provides a structured pathway toward a comprehensive and lasting settlement. Kuala Lumpur also expressed deep appreciation to Qatar, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Türkiye for their supporting roles in the talks.
Meanwhile, Malaysia expressed clear support for the next phases of the peace process. For example, the upcoming talks will focus on maritime security arrangements and phased sanctions relief. The ministry believes these confidence-building initiatives will lead to a durable cessation of hostilities. Ultimately, Malaysia remains unequivocal that lasting peace can only be achieved through open dialogue, diplomacy, and mutual respect.
