KUALA LUMPUR – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim chaired a major federal-state summit at the Parliament building. The 149th Meeting of Menteri Besar and Chief Ministers focused on reviving the country’s economy. Leaders want to shield Malaysia from global uncertainties caused by conflicts in West Asia.
Anwar stated that geopolitical tensions require a highly coordinated local response. State and federal leaders reviewed a series of new government initiatives. These plans aim to protect local markets, secure supply chains, and shield citizens from trade disruptions.
The council also examined Malaysia’s readiness for the incoming El Niño weather pattern. This extreme climate change is expected to hurt regional water supplies. It also threatens the agricultural sector and national food security. Officials are preparing for higher risks of extreme heat and haze.
Anwar stressed that economic resilience depends entirely on smooth cooperation. He urged all regional authorities to implement national policies in an integrated, efficient, and people-centric manner. This approach will help attract high-quality investments and safeguard public well-being.
The Prime Minister praised the strong consensus shown by the state leaders. He noted that close federal-state relations ensure that development benefits are shared equally by all Malaysians.
