SHAH ALAM — Selangor state authorities have identified 76 illegal dumpsites that remain active across the state, prompting a coordinated enforcement push to dismantle persistent dumping hotspots.
The state government is deploying an integrated strategy focused on four key pillars: prevention, continuous monitoring, site rehabilitation, and direct legal enforcement.
CCTV Monitoring and Targeted Enforcement
Selangor Local Government and Tourism Committee chairman Datuk Ng Suee Lim stated that immediate operational priority is being given to the 76 active sites, particularly locations identified as repeat offenses.
To enhance real-time detection, the state is expanding its network of Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) cameras at strategic dumping hotspots.
“The state government’s approach is not just about cleaning up rubbish after it has been dumped,” Ng said. “Our focus is to break the cycle of illegal dumping so that cleaned-up locations do not turn back into illegal dumpsites.”
Inter-Agency Operations
The enforcement framework brings together key regional stakeholders to coordinate field operations and land oversight, including,
- Local Municipal Councils – Executing policy and local enforcement operations.
- KDEB Waste Management – Managing site clearance and waste removal operations.
- District Land Offices – Verifying landownership and assisting with site containment.
- State Enforcement Agencies – Conducting legal monitoring and offender tracking.
Through increased patrol frequency and joint operations, authorities aim to secure cleaned locations and deter commercial and domestic illegal waste disposal across the state.
