BELGOROD — A series of drone attacks struck Russia’s border region of Belgorod on Tuesday. As a result, three people died and nineteen others suffered injuries when a strike hit a passenger bus.
First, the attack on the bus happened in the town of Shebekino near the Ukrainian border. Immediately after the blast, emergency crews took eighteen injured people to nearby hospitals for quick treatment.
Meanwhile, separate drones hit businesses and cars across several nearby villages. Because of these additional strikes, rescue workers found bodies at two business sites and inside one wrecked car in the surrounding rural area.
Following the strikes, Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova condemned the attack on the bus. She claimed that opposing forces attacked public transport on purpose. However, Ukrainian military officials rejected these claims, stating that their forces do not target civilians.
Ultimately, these strikes show a rising trend of air attacks along the border line. In response to the growing danger, local authorities reported that their air defense teams have stopped thousands of incoming drones in recent months.
