PUTRAJAYA, 23 July 2025: Malaysians can look forward to a four-day long weekend in September, as Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim today declared Monday, September 15, 2025, an additional public holiday in conjunction with this year’s Malaysia Day celebration.

The announcement aims to further honor national unity and the profound significance of Malaysia’s formation. It is hoped that this will strengthen the bonds among Malaysians and serve as a reminder of the nation’s founding principles.

The additional public holiday effectively extends the Malaysia Day celebration, which falls on September 16, allowing citizens more time to participate in nationwide festivities and reflect on national identity. In another move to ease daily burdens, the Prime Minister also announced that there would be no toll increases for 10 major highways whose concession contracts were due for a review, with the government bearing a cost of over RM500 million to maintain current rates. The main Malaysia Day celebration on September 16 is reported to be held at the PICCA@Arena Convention Centre in Butterworth, Penang.
