Putra Heights, 1st April 2025 : A massive fire broke out in Putra Heights this morning following a gas pipeline explosion near a Petronas gas station. The fire, which started at 8:10 a.m., sent huge flames into the sky, prompting evacuations and emergency responses. Authorities quickly isolated the affected pipeline to prevent further damage.
The fire was caused by a gas leak from a pipeline operated by Petronas. The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 8:23 a.m. and responded immediately. By the time firefighters arrived, the flames had spread to nearby residential areas, putting several lives at risk.
The blaze affected houses in Kampung Kuala Sungai Baru, trapping residents inside. Firefighters rescued seven individuals, including two elderly persons. A total of 33 people sustained injuries, with six requiring hospitalization. Some of the injured suffered burns as the fire engulfed their homes. Residents have been temporarily relocated to the Putra Heights Mosque Multipurpose Hall for shelter.
Petronas has shut down the affected pipeline, and nearby gas stations have been closed as a precaution. Firefighters are working to completely extinguish the flames, while authorities investigate the cause of the pipeline failure. The Selangor State Disaster Management Unit has assured that the situation is under control and that further safety assessments will be conducted. Residents have been advised to avoid the area and follow safety instructions.
This incident raises concerns about pipeline safety, and further investigations will determine the necessary preventive measures to avoid similar accidents in the future.
