Students Urged to Apply for 2027 MRSM, SBP Seats by Aug 14

KUALA LUMPUR — Eligible Indian students are being strongly urged to submit their applications for admission into Maktab Rendah Sains MARA (MRSM) and Sekolah Berasrama Penuh (SBP) residential schools for the 2027 academic intake before the August 14 deadline.

Gunasegaran Kandasamy, Executive Director of the Guidance & Social Empowerment Movement (ACE), advised parents and applicants not to delay their submissions until the final day.

Underutilized Allocations

Despite institutional provisions allowing up to 10% non-Bumiputera intake in these elite residential institutions, Gunasegaran expressed concern over the historically low application volume from Indian students each year.

He highlighted the key benefits of residential school education:

  • World-Class Academic Environment: Students learn alongside high-performing peers in fully equipped residential facilities, fostering healthy academic competition.
  • Premier Pathways: Graduation from these institutions significantly broadens higher-education pathways and future career opportunities.
  • Continuous System Upgrades: Both the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development and the Ministry of Education continuously enhance infrastructure and curriculum standards across these campuses.

Selection Process & Criteria

To qualify for placement, applicants must meet specific requirements:

  • Single Entrance Exam (PKSK): Applicants must sit for the standardized Pentaksiran Kemasukan Sekolah Khusus (PKSK) assessment test.
  • Academic & Co-Curricular Merit: High academic standing and active participation in co-curricular activities are mandatory.
  • B40 Priority: Priority consideration will be given to candidates coming from lower-income (B40) households.

Online applications are open for Form 1 and Form 4 intakes. Interested parents and students can apply through the respective Ministry of Education (SPSK) and MARA portals or join dedicated community support channels for guidance.
