KUALA LUMPUR — A college student appeared in court today to face two murder charges. This case follows a fatal road accident on Jalan Ampang earlier this month. The suspect, 24-year-old Danish Raman Kamar Kumaresan, arrived at the court complex in handcuffs. Specifically, he stood quietly as the charges were read before Magistrate Nurul Izzah Hasan Basri.
The tragic crash happened at 5:30 AM on May 2, 2026. According to police reports, a car hit a motorcycle from behind near the Gleneagles Hospital. As a result, the impact killed a married couple, A. Doraisingam and A. Menagah. Both victims died at the scene from their injuries.
Legal Charges Under Section 302
The prosecution is charging the suspect under Section 302 of the Penal Code. In Malaysia, this section covers the crime of murder. Consequently, a conviction leads to a mandatory death sentence or 30 to 40 years in prison. Furthermore, if the court does not give the death penalty, the offender must also receive at least 12 strokes of the cane.
However, the Magistrate did not record a plea today. This is because murder cases must be heard in the High Court. Therefore, the court set the next mention for August 17 to wait for forensic reports.
Initial findings suggest that alcohol was a factor in the crash. Indeed, police arrested the driver after his release from the hospital. In addition, authorities sent blood samples to the Chemistry Department for testing. This case shows a firm move against dangerous driving that leads to death.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Transport continues to push for safer roads. This tragedy serves as a warning about the risks of impaired driving. Ultimately, the government aims to protect the public through strict laws and education.
The couple’s three children now face life without their parents. According to family members, the couple was traveling to work when the accident happened. The victims’ nephew, Suresh Kumar, told reporters that the family wants justice. Similarly, this tragedy has started a public debate about road safety.
