KAJANG — Local police are searching for a driver who fled a fatal hit-and-run accident on the Cheras-Kajang Highway. The incident happened at about 10:00 PM on Monday night along Kilometre 13.0 of the expressway. A 46-year-old Malaysian man died at the scene from severe injuries.
Initially, the victim stopped his silver multi-purpose vehicle (MPV) on the left road shoulder. He was travelling with five passengers when a tyre punctured. Therefore, he pulled over safely to replace the flat tyre.
After completing the task, the driver walked to the rear of his vehicle. He wanted to remove a bucket used as a temporary warning sign. However, a red MPV suddenly approached from behind and struck him. The unidentified driver then sped away from the location without stopping.
Medical emergency teams arrived quickly but pronounced the victim dead at the scene. Currently, traffic police are investigating the crash under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. This law specifically covers cases of causing death by reckless driving.
Consequently, investigators are appealing to the public for help. They urge motorists with dashboard camera footage to contact them immediately. Anyone with information can call the investigating officer, Inspector Nur Faezah Mohd Zakria, at 012-3268496.
