Malaysia Mandates SIRIM Certification For Engine Oils

KUALA LUMPUR — Malaysia now mandates official SIRIM certification for all motor vehicle engine oils sold nationwide.

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living introduced the rule to stop counterfeit lubricants from entering the market. Fake products often contain recycled oil that damages engines and causes unexpected breakdowns.

SIRIM QAS International tests all certified oils for safety, chemical purity, and performance. Certified bottles must display an official SIRIM conformity label on the cap or container.

Authorities urge drivers to check for the official sticker before purchasing any lubricant. Enforcement officers will penalize distributors and shops that sell uncertified engine oils.

This measure protects consumers from costly repairs while supporting legitimate automotive lubricant brands across the country.
