SABAH, 17 September 2025: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has stated that the government’s top priority is to ensure all initial aid is swiftly delivered to flood and landslide victims in Sabah. He has ordered the full machinery of the Federal Government to mobilize and support the state in its disaster response.

The Prime Minister’s directive follows a series of landslides and floods in Sabah caused by continuous heavy rainfall. Nine people were reported killed in two landslides in Kampung Cenderakasih, Kota Kinabalu and Kampung Mook, Papar. In addition, 863 people from 220 families have been relocated to temporary relief centers in four affected districts: Penampang, Beaufort, Membakut, and Tawau.

In Sabah, the number of flood victims has risen to 2,897 people from 813 families across 107 villages. All victims are currently sheltering at 22 PPS and one Permanent Relief Centre (PPK) that have been open since September 9. The Membakut district recorded the highest number of displaced people with 931, followed by Penampang with 809, and Putatan with 559.

In Kelantan, the number of flood victims in Felda Chiku 1 and 2, Gua Musang, has increased to 212 people, up from 70 the previous day. All of these victims are being housed at the PPS located in Dewan Semai Bakti Felda Chiku 2.

In Perak the final PPS at Sekolah Kebangsaan Kuala Slim in the Muallim district of Perak, which had housed 39 victims from 10 families, was officially closed at 8 a.m. today. According to the Perak Disaster Management Committee (JPBN), all victims have been allowed to return to their homes as floodwaters have completely receded. The state’s Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) reported that the water level at the Sungai Slim Station had recorded a warning level of 24.77 meters, which is above the normal level.

Anwar has extended his condolences to the families who lost loved ones and has approved an immediate allocation of RM10 million through the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) to assist the victims. This is in addition to RM11 million already channeled to the state government for urgent repairs of essential facilities. The situation is being closely monitored by Nadma and Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Dr Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, who is on the ground. The Prime Minister also emphasized the need to expedite repairs on public infrastructure, including minor roads, schools, and health clinics.
