25th January 2025 : The world will celebrate the seventh International Day of Education on January 24, 2025, under the theme “AI and education: Preserving human agency in an automated world.” This annual observance, established by the United Nations General Assembly in December 2018, recognizes the critical role of education in fostering peace, progress, and sustainable development. Since its inception in 2019, 59 member nations have supported this initiative, emphasizing the global commitment to inclusive, equitable, and quality education for all.

This year’s theme focuses on the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI) and automation on education and the workforce. As technology reshapes economies and industries, the theme underscores the importance of maintaining human agency—ensuring that education equips individuals with the skills and critical thinking needed to navigate and thrive in an increasingly automated world.

By highlighting these challenges and opportunities, the 2025 observance aims to inspire collective action and reaffirm the global political will to create education systems that empower learners, foster innovation, and promote equity in a rapidly changing environment.
