Meta AI Transforms Photos into Sound-Powered Videos

On October 4, Meta unveiled an innovative generative AI model that enables users to create short videos with accompanying audio from text prompts and photos. This technology, dubbed “Meta Movie Gen,” is being hailed by the company as a significant “breakthrough” in leveraging AI to generate both video and sound content.

Meta emphasized that it plans to gather feedback from filmmakers and creators as it gradually moves toward making the AI-driven video tool available to the public. However, no specific timeline for the release of Movie Gen has been provided.

In a statement, Meta clarified that while the potential applications of these foundational AI models are exciting, they are not meant to replace the creative work of artists and animators. Instead, the goal is to offer new possibilities for content creation.

The model allows users to input text prompts to create personalized video clips, including those based on individual photos, with a duration of up to 16 seconds. Meta claims that the model delivers cutting-edge results, particularly when it comes to maintaining human identity and motion in the generated videos.

Meta provided examples of potential uses, such as animating a “day in the life” video for sharing on Reels or creating a customized animated birthday message for a friend to send on WhatsApp.

Movie Gen represents Meta’s third wave of AI-powered video generation technology, marking another step forward in its ongoing exploration of generative AI. However, the growing capabilities of AI in creating realistic videos have also sparked concerns, particularly over the potential misuse of “deepfake” technology to replicate people’s likenesses without consent. – AFP
