KUALA LUMPUR — The Malaysian Government has extended the mySalam national health protection scheme through 2026, offering free critical illness coverage and daily hospitalization allowances to lower-income citizens and their families.
The initiative aims to alleviate the immediate financial burden of medical emergencies, assisting B40 households with daily expenses, transportation costs, and income loss during recovery.
Eligibility Criteria and Automatic Enrollment
Eligible Malaysians are automatically enrolled in the mySalam scheme and will receive notification via SMS in stages.
To qualify for coverage in 2026, applicants must be Malaysian citizens who are active recipients of Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) or eligible spouses of STR recipients. The specific age brackets for coverage include:
- Married Recipients & Spouses: Aged 18 to 65.
- Single Recipients: Aged 21 to 65.
- Persons with Disabilities (OKU): Aged 18 to 65.
Note: All age qualifications are calculated as of January 1, 2026.
Financial Benefits and Exclusions
The mySalam scheme provides two main forms of financial support:
1. Critical Illness Benefit
A one-time cash payout of RM8,000 is provided upon diagnosis of any of the 50 covered critical illnesses. These medical conditions span 12 categories, including cancer, heart disease, kidney diseases, liver conditions, brain and nerve disorders, mental disorders, terminal illnesses, and rare diseases.
2. Daily Hospitalization Benefit
Eligible individuals admitted for overnight stays at designated government, university, or military hospitals can claim RM50 per day for up to 14 days per calendar year, capping out at RM700 annually.
Exclusions: Hospitalization claims will be automatically rejected if admissions result from suicide attempts, acts of war/riots, illegal activities, alcohol/drug abuse, or pregnancy and family planning treatments.
How to Submit a Claim
All claims must be submitted digitally via the official mySalam web portal.
- For Hospitalization Claims – Log in to the mySalam portal, navigate to
Claims>Claims Submission>Hospitalisation Claim, fill in the form, and upload a MyKad copy alongside the official hospital discharge note.
- For Critical Illness Claims – Download the official Critical Illness Doctor’s Statement form from the portal. Have the treating specialist complete, sign, and stamp the document. Re-log into the portal under
Claims>Claims Submission>Critical Illness Claimto upload the MyKad copy and completed form.
Important Deadlines
- Coverage Period: January 1, 2026 – December 31, 2026
- Claim Submission Cutoff: June 30, 2027
Beneficiaries are urged to submit their medical documentation promptly following diagnosis or hospital discharge to prevent processing delays.
