KUALA PILAH — PKR deputy president Nurul Izzah Anwar defended the government for releasing the Tabung Haji report right before state elections.
Speaking at a campaign event on Thursday, she told reporters that critics would attack the administration regardless of when officials published the document. She emphasized that public transparency matters most for long-term reform.
“Whether we released the RCI report or not, we would still have come under attack,” Nurul Izzah said. “What matters is the transparency and courage to make it public.”
The Department of Islamic Development Malaysia published the 211-page Royal Commission of Inquiry investigation on Wednesday. The document covers the management and operations of the pilgrim fund between 2014 and 2020.
Inquiry findings highlighted past governance lapses, political influence over profit distribution decisions, and risks to depositor guarantees. Authorities confirmed that enforcement agencies will investigate statutory violations identified in the report, while Parliament prepares to debate the findings in a special sitting.
Addressing the upcoming vote, Nurul Izzah urged citizens to participate on Saturday. She called on residents to back Pakatan Harapan candidates and support caretaker Chief Minister Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun to ensure continued development across Negeri Sembilan.
More than 860,000 ordinary voters will cast ballots this weekend to choose representatives for 36 state legislative seats.
