PETALING JAYA, 18 August 2025: Teenage football player Paarveen a/l Shanmugesh Waran, who is Malaysian-Australian, has formally made a big step in his developing career by joining FC Vizela in Liga Portugal 2, Portugal’s second tier. The 18-year-old defender will play for their Under-19 team in 2025–2026.
Born on February 6, 2007, Paarveen is a dual citizen of Australia and Malaysia. He played with Perth Glory, Perth SC, and most notably Johor Darul Ta’zim IV (JDT IV) during his early football career. In the 2024 Youth Cup, he garnered notice as a crucial defensive pillar. Paarveen is getting ready for life in Europe as of August 3, 2025, with FC Vizela’s Under-19 team, a program renowned for its emphasis on international talent and young development.
Paarveen is one of the young players making the journey to European professional football, which is historic for both Malaysian football and Paarveen. He is positioned as a player to watch because of his youth background, dual heritage and tall stature.
Prior to Paarveen, in 2020, winger Safawi Rasid also had time in Portugal, but it was just for a loan from JDT to Portimonense SC until he left for home three months later. In addition to Paarveen, a number of other players have travelled overseas this season in pursuit of possibilities. One such player is R. Ruventhiran, a former defender for Selangor who is currently playing with Aguilas-UMak of the Philippines.
