KUALA LUMPUR — Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has filed a defamation suit against PAS Deputy President Datuk Seri Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
The lawsuit, filed at the Kuala Lumpur High Court, stems from a political speech delivered by Tuan Ibrahim in Pahang on June 14. Video recordings of the speech were subsequently uploaded to YouTube and Facebook, where they accumulated thousands of views.
Allegations and Rebuttal
In his statement of claim, Anwar stated that the speech falsely portrayed him as using the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) to suppress and silence his political critics.
Refuting the claims entirely, the Prime Minister emphasized that he has never directed the police force to take action against critics of the government. He characterized the allegations as completely baseless, irresponsible, and damaging.
Relief and Legal Remedies Sought
Through the legal suit, Anwar is seeking,
- Injunction Order – An injunction to restrain Tuan Ibrahim from further spreading or publishing the defamatory speech.
- Content Removal – An order compelling the immediate removal of all relevant video recordings from social media platforms.
- Financial Remedies – Unspecified damages for defamation.
