PETALING JAYA: Beginning April 21, all public school students in Malaysia will be required to wear a Jalur Gemilang badge on their school uniforms, following the Cabinet’s approval last month.

A circular issued by Education Director-General Azman Adnan on Monday outlined the new rule, stating that the badge, measuring 5cm x 2cm, should be worn on the right chest of the uniform. This policy applies to students in government schools, government-aided schools, matriculation colleges, and teacher training institutes. Other educational institutions are encouraged to adopt this practice as well.

The initiative aims to instill patriotism, unity, and a sense of national identity among students. The Ministry of Education emphasized that wearing the Jalur Gemilang badge will not only reflect respect for the country but also promote responsibility and discipline.

In addition, state and district education departments will play a key role in supporting schools to organize activities that highlight national values and the badge’s significance in fostering national pride. Through this initiative, the ministry hopes to strengthen the spirit of patriotism at the grassroots level, ensuring that it continues to grow and thrive among students and educators.
