Three Vehicle On Fire Caused Massive Traffic At Penang

GEORGE TOWN – A chaotic Three-vehicle collision triggered a massive traffic under the Udini flyover on Friday morning 15 May 2026, bringing traffic to a complete standstill on a major Penang Island highway.

The accident occurred at roughly 7:00 AM along Jalan Masjid Negeri in Jelutong, just as the morning rush hour was peaking. The impact of the crash caused three of the involved vehicles—a trailer carrying concrete, a tour van, and a Proton S70 sedan—to burst into flames. Thick black smoke quickly filled the underpass, which was captured in viral videos across social media.

Firefighters from the Jalan Perak Fire and Rescue Station rushed to the scene after receiving an emergency call at 7:04 AM. Navigating through the mounting gridlock, the rescue team arrived at 7:26 AM and immediately deployed a direct attack method to combat the intense blaze.

Remarkably, emergency officials confirmed that no one was injured or killed in the spectacular accident. While the fire completely gutted the front cabin of the trailer, the tour van, and the sedan, two other vehicles caught up in the pile-up—a Perodua Alza and a Chery Tiggo—managed to escape the flames completely untouched.

First responders successfully brought the fire under control by 7:33 AM, and the site was cleared safely later that morning. The emergency response prevented further risk to the public, though commuters faced severe delays extending into Greenlane and Jalan Batu Lanchang. They also advised to use alternative route to escape the massive traffic standstill. Local authorities and the Fire Investigation Unit have launched an inquiry to determine the exact cause of the initial collision and the subsequent fire.
