Govt Says Remote Work Saves Crucial Petrol Subsidies

PUTRAJAYA — The government is urging citizens to utilize work-from-home arrangements to actively reduce national fuel consumption. This initiative comes as Malaysia manages the ongoing financial pressures of national fuel subsidies.

Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan stated that remote work serves as a practical solution during the current global oil market uncertainties. Consequently, the government has decided to maintain the monthly BUDI MADANI RON95 subsidy quota at 200 litres for the time being. Officials are closely monitoring global energy markets before making any changes to the current fuel limits.

Crucially, data shows that nearly 80 percent of subsidy recipients use less than 200 litres of petrol each month. Therefore, the current quota remains manageable for the vast majority of Malaysian drivers.

To support these cost-cutting goals, the administration advises working from home whenever possible. This strategy directly saves petrol and reduces traffic on major roads. By adopting remote work, the public can help lower the state’s massive fuel subsidy bill while maintaining daily economic productivity.
