INDIA, 8 May: Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated that India is able to live freely today because of the sacrifices made by countless individuals for the nation. In a high-level meeting with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, NSA Ajit Doval, and the chiefs of the three armed forces, Modi emphasized that the military has “complete operational freedom” to determine the timing, method, and targets of India’s response to the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack.
Modi affirmed his complete faith in the professional abilities of the armed forces and reiterated the national resolve to deliver a strong, decisive response to terrorism. He vowed to pursue the terrorists and their sponsors a clear reference to Pakistan to the “ends of the earth” and ensure punishment “beyond their imagination.”
Earlier, Union Home Secretary Govind Mohan chaired a meeting with top paramilitary and security officials to assess internal security measures. Following the attack, the Cabinet Committee on Security suspended the 1960 Indus Waters Treaty, accusing Pakistan of violating its terms.
The CCS also ordered all Pakistani nationals, except those holding long-term, diplomatic, or official visas, to leave India by April 29. Home Minister Amit Shah contacted all state chief ministers to ensure this directive was strictly followed. A subsequent video conference led by the Union home secretary with state chief secretaries reinforced the implementation of this decision nationwide.
This strong stance signals India’s zero-tolerance approach toward cross-border terrorism and highlights the growing national consensus on safeguarding the country’s sovereignty and security.
