SHAH ALAM, June 22 — A destructive midnight fire ripped through a primary school building in Tanjung Karang early Monday morning. The incident occurred at Sekolah Kebangsaan Parit Serong and heavily damaged two essential rooms. Fortunately, emergency services reported no casualties.
The Selangor Fire and Rescue Department received an emergency call at 12.50 am. Responders from the Tanjung Karang station rushed to the scene and arrived by 1.01 am. They discovered heavy smoke and flames coming from the brick building.
Operations Commander Abdul Rafar Zulkifly immediately requested additional help from nearby regions. A team of 13 firefighters from the Tanjung Karang, Kuala Selangor, and Sungai Besar stations arrived quickly. They deployed three long water lines to battle the blaze from different sides.
According to Assistant Director Ashrul Riezal Asbar, the fire affected the administration office and the resource unit room. The total damage covered an area of about 60 by 25 feet. Firefighters worked fast and brought the flames under control by 1.13 am. Their quick action stopped the fire from spreading to nearby classrooms.
Officials confirmed that the school rooms were empty when the fire started. Technicians from Tenaga Nasional Berhad arrived soon after to cut the electricity supply safely. Firefighters finished clearing the building at 3.56 am, and forensic teams are now investigating the cause.
