KUALA LUMPUR — His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia, has granted royal assent to eight new legislative bills. Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul shared the announcement in Parliament today before the start of question time.
The approved laws were first passed by lawmakers earlier this year during the parliamentary session that ran from January 19 to March 3. This fresh batch of legislation updates several major public sectors. Among the newly enacted laws are the Government Procurement Act 2025, alongside targeted updates to both the Immigration Act and the Passports Act. The King also gave his formal sign-off to the International Settlement Agreements Resulting from Mediation Act 2025.
Boosting Transit and Environment
The legal updates also cover regional infrastructure and green policies. The Johor Bahru-Singapore Rapid Transit System Link Act 2026 has officially secured its royal mandate. This law helps pave the way for smoother, more efficient cross-border travel between Malaysia and Singapore.
Rounding out the approved list are the Capitation Grant Act 2026, the Environmental Quality Amendment Act 2026, and the Supplementary Supply Act 2026.
Senate Progress
In a final update, Speaker Johari noted that the upper house has made progress on separate labor regulations. The Dewan Negara successfully passed the Employment Insurance System Amendment Bill 2025. This bill includes specific revisions to Clause 11 and will head back to the lower house for further review on a date to be announced soon.
